HCA is a private Christian school in northeast Philadelphia founded and sponsored by the historic Holmesburg Baptist Church offering Preschool, Elementary, and Middle School programs accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA-CESS).
Our VISION is to integrate Christian discipleship and the highest standards of educational practice into every aspect of our curriculum and school culture.
Our GOAL is to shape students into intelligent, creative individuals who are equipped and inspired to excel in all their academic and vocational endeavors. We want to develop every student’s gifts, character, and devotion to Christ so that their aspirations and opportunities in life may be limited by nothing but God’s calling and plan for them. Our goal is to train young hearts and minds to live and think and work by faith in the Son of God, striving always for excellence, looking for ways to love their neighbor, and to make the world better, doing everything, whether big or small, for the glory of God.

A Look Inside Our School
Benefits of an HCA Education
Creative, Critical, Independent Thinking
Our teachers are able to nurture independent thinking skills at every grade level because of our school-wide philosophy of education that values difficult open-ended questions, creative ingenuity, and critical thinking. This prepares your child to thrive in today’s highly competitive and rapidly changing academic and economic landscape.
An Inspiring Learning Environment
Our skilled and passionate teachers strive to exceed public and charter school standards. We combine challenging academics, diverse extracurricular activities, and a robust Christian worldview to inspire within your child a genuine zeal for learning, moral virtue, and self discipline that will motivate them to always do their best in class and beyond.
More One-on-One Attention
There are pitfalls to expecting every child to learn at the same rate or in the same way. One may need more help while another needs to be more challenged, and this requires attentive and caring teachers who are not overwhelmed by an overcrowded classroom. Because we cap our classes at 24 students, our teachers are able to offer more one-on-one attention than other schools. This means that your child won’t be left behind if they struggle, nor will they be kept behind if they excel.
Christlike Character Formation
The Christian values we model and instill in our students will encourage your child to make better choices –the right choices. When trials and temptations come in life, whether in the classroom, in the workplace, or in their most important relationships, the redeeming love of God and the wisdom of his Word will guide and enable them by faith to follow Christ rather than cutting corners or indulging in unloving behavior.
Rich, Edifying Relationships
Your child is more than just another name on an application or another face in the classroom. They are created in the image of God and redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. So we make every effort to know each child personally and to love them as God loves them. We want to know their strengths, their frustrations, what makes them laugh, what they like to eat, what stories they like to read, and everything else, simply because they matter to God and to us, and we think they should know that. Our hope is that they’ll graduate HCA not just knowing that God loves and cares for them, but feeling it too through the edifying relationships our teachers and staff establish with them over their years at HCA.
Achievement for the Glory of God
Every parent has aspirations for their child. Every kid has dreams of their own. And God most certainly has goals for us too, to make us more like Himself. Our students learn little by little, year after year, what it takes to achieve all that God has set before them. We strive to model for them and instill in them the essential ingredients to achievement: prayer, effort, self-discipline, and patience, woven together with faith, hope, and love. We hope to form in each student the skills and character traits that will allow them to go far in their education, careers, and walk with God long after they graduate from HCA, so that they get the joy of seeing God glorified in their lives and accomplishments.
Our curriculum is designed for more than just knowledge acquisition and good scores on standardized tests. At every grade level, we are helping students develop their critical thinking abilities and grow in moral character.
All major subjects recommended by the Department of Education are included in our curriculum and are taught from a biblical, Christian worldview. We also incorporate other subjects not required by the government to enrich the academic program and equip students for faithful and fruitful Christian living in our ever-changing world.
Our education program is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS).
The Admissions Process
Sign up for Open House below! Or call our office at 215-335-4323 to set up a convenient time for you to see the school and meet our teachers and staff.
We will begin accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year in January 2017. The non-refundable application fee is $40. All families who register to attend Open House will be notified by email when our online application is made available.
After you have submitted the application, we will contact you to arrange for a time for your child to take the entrance exam. This exam is simply to evaluate your child’s readiness for the grade he or she is applying to enter. A non-refundable entrance exam fee of $60 must be paid prior to taking the exam.
The entrance exam is followed by an interview with our administrative leadership. The interview is simply a time for us to get to know our prospective students and their parents. It’s also an opportunity for you to speak directly to the Head of School and ask any questions you may have. We will contact you to arrange for an interview.
Once all the above is completed, you will wait to receive notice (by mail or email) of the Admissions Team’s decision regarding your child’s acceptance and, if applicable, further details on preparing to attend HCA.
Once your child has been admitted to attend HCA, you will need to complete the new student registration forms, agree to the financial commitments of attending HCA, and pay the $150 new student registration deposit. This deposit is non-refundable. Once the deposit is paid, your child’s spot in his or her class is reserved until your first tuition payment is due.
