The Growing Season
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
Dear H.C.A. Parents and Friends,
As Christians we are never done growing. The sanctification process (the growing season) never ends for a believer until the Lord call us home. As adult believers we must continue to seek His face, grow in His grace and walk in His will according to the plan He has ordained for each of our individual lives, until He brings us to glory. A very important part of that plan is to plant seeds of faith, train up, and nurture the children God has entrusted to you. Whether those children be your own, your grandchildren, foster children or children you interact with in your job or church family, God commands us to train them up in the way they are to go.
Every summer we plant tomato seeds in our garden. Within a few weeks of planting we must put a cage over the plants, to contain and train them in the way we want them to grow. If we fail to put those cages over the plants they grow wild, intermingling with other plants and weeds, falling to the ground because there is no support and the fruit they eventually produce rots because it is laying on the ground. Now, if all we did was “cage and restrain” the plants would still not yield the desired result of ripe and delicious fruit. We must also nurture our plants. Nurturing includes weeding, fertilizing and watering; removing the weeds that will prevent growth and giving the plants what they need to grow and produce good fruit. The same is true with children.
Training up a child is not easy. Raising children to know and love our Lord isn’t something that happens by chance. It happens by design; it is something you must plan on doing with God’s direction and purpose. Training and nurturing includes discipline, protecting them for harm and giving them the tools and knowledge they need to grow into Godly men and women. It involves teaching them biblical principles and applying biblical discipline with love. Children must know they are loved regardless of the times the fall short of your expectations, those times they sin. Just as God loves us unconditionally, we must love our children unconditionally. Just as God disciplines us in love, we must discipline our children in love. Discipline without love is abuse and love without discipline is not love at all. Love and discipline cannot be separated.
This month we celebrate Mother’s Day and in June we recognize Fathers. Godly parents are a blessing from the Lord to their children. H.C.A. counts it a privilege to come along side of you, to help and support you, in the raising up of your children during this growing season of their life. May our God continue to direct your path and grant you wisdom as you train and nurture your children.
May the Lord Bless You Always,
Head of School

Holmesburg Baptist Church and Holmesburg Christian Academy have been busy planning a wonderful summer for children of different ages. Opportunities will include Preschool Camp for children ages 3-5 and Church camp for older children. Both camps will run for an eight week period beginning June 27th through August 19 th. This allows you to drop off children of different age groups at one location. We are excited about the return of ART CAMP again this year for children who have completed grades K-8 th from 10:00AM until noon. ART CAMP gives children the opportunity to explore their creative side in an age appropriate setting, under the direction of Mrs. Winter. Our doors will be wide open this summer. Stop in or call for additional information or forms.
